| Class History In the Spring of 1959, about 300 confused and scared L-10's entered the halls of Balboa. First to make the scene were President, Leo Gonzales, Vice President Cookie Olsen, Secretary, Barbara Pera, and Treasurer, Diane Meyer, all under the direction of Sponsor, Mrs. Blanche McCoy (inset photo). Beginning the term with a hit was their High-Ten dance held in the girls' gym. Records provided the music, which filled the evening air with the theme, "Autumn Leaves". As L-ll's, all looked forward to the magnificent highlight of that semester, the Junior Prom. Arranging this affair were President, John Taylor, Vice President, Diane Meyer, Secretary, Penny Jones, and Treasurer, Roberta Fernandez. This semi-formal event took place at the Whitcomb Hotel. Carrying the burden during the following semester were H-ll class officers: President, John Wiley, Vice President, Marlene Graalfs, Secretary, Cookie Olsen, and Treasurer, Diane Meyer. This class, filled with originality and get-up and go, again used their charm at the Whitcomb by being the first class to ever have a Junior Exclusive at a hotel. A touch of superiority was glimpsed in the eyes of many upon promotion into the L-12. The L-12's proudly walked the halls, impatiently awaiting their Move-Up. Time passed all too soon, and before long President, Rich Radetichandhis fellow leaders: Vice President, Penny Jones, Secretary, Kathy Okelberry, and Treasurer, Marlene Graalfs, climaxed their last weeks in office by leading the way to a successful beginning for the term ahead. With their new class officers: President, Tom Bellucci, Vice President, Joan San Filippo, Secretary, Marlene Graalfs, Treasurer, Terry Lee Alien, Asst. Treasurer, Barbara Pera, Boys' Rep., Jim Kireopolus and Girls' Rep., Leslie Rosengreen, they stampeded down the aisle to the glory of their last term. On January 20, 1962, they had their Senior Ball at the St. Francis Hotel — a night they'll all remember. On the evening of January 31, 1962, the remaining 269 marched to the stage of Balboa for the last time. |
