Stork brings Don staff new faculty members! Who said the population wasn't exploding? Judging by events on campus this question became moot. "There are a lot of children who don't have homes. I wanted to provide a home ' stated Head Counselor Donna Pinkney who adopted a son. A premature baby, weighing less than six pounds was placed in Pinkney's arms September 1. Pinkney stated that when she first held her new son, she was scared. The adoption center had prepared her for an older baby because the process had taken so long. "I wanted as young a baby as I could get. I was lucky to get anything under six months," said Pinkney. Always wanting to adopt a child, Jamal Angel is the newest addition to the Pinkney family. When questioned the reason behind his name, Pinkney stated simply, "It has a ring to it!" Pinkney admitted she wasn't prepared for motherhood. She said she was quite surprised when the phone call came to tell her about the child. When asked if she would ever adopt again, Pinkney stated that she plans to adopt another child in the future, especially since she feels it is better for children to be raised with siblings. Although it took five months to complete the paper work and another two months to find a child, Pinkney says she could never have been totally prepared for the child's arrival. "The biggest thing to realize is that this is permanent," she said. Counselor Tom Sousa also had a new addition to his family. His grandson, Carl Victor Taugher, nine pounds, was born at 2:20 p.m. on November 29. About becoming a grandfather, Sousa stated, "I am too young to be a grandpa. I'm still a kid myself." Secretary Jeanne Flanders also welcomed her first grandchild when her daughter-in-law gave birth to eightpound, three ounce Nicole on November 23 at 2:57 a.m. "This is my first grandchild, and I'm absolutely thrilled. I'm even more thrilled that it's z girl because I have three boys," stated Flanders about the baby. Faculty Members Jim and Debbie Clark were also expecting a visit from the stork. They announced their expectations to the Girls' Varsity Basketball Team November 22. The new dark was expected to arrive sometime in July. -Lisa Reed- |
