| Forsberg wins DC trip Attending the Presidential Classroom in the summer, Senior Class President Debbie Forsberg was among 540 other students from the United States and abroad that came together to see the government in action. Activities during the confer- ence included visits to the Lincoln Memorial, Smithsonian Institute, and Arlington Cemetery. Forsberg felt that visiting the Vietnam Me- morial had the greatest impact on her. "Visiting the Vietnam Memo- rial on Father's Day was a very emotional experience. The sight of a Father's Day car and flowers next to the wall brought tears to my eyes," stated Forsberg. Given the chance to sit in on Congress and the Supreme Court, Forsberg learned how the government is really run. "I learned that voting is a mere formality. It doesn't really compare to what is being done on the subcommittees. I met students from all over the world that are very interested in the future of our government and world." The seminar gave the partici- pants an opportunity to meet with Congressmen and representatives. They listened to speakers on various topics concerning the United States and the world. The whole class wrote a student plat- form that was presented to former Attorney General Edwin Meese on topics such as AIDS, terrorists, and Star Wars. -Lisa Ponies |
